Background Statement
As a newly married couple in 2000, Guy and Kaarin Scoma discussed their
dreams. Blessed by the incredible support Guy had received as a young widower and father, he had many ideas on how to provide hope, encouragement and resources for others. Kaarin had been training to be a Therapeutic Riding Instructor and sought an opportunity to help others through animals and country living, while utilizing her event planning and ranch experiences.
In 2008, friends and family proposed they inquire about "Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch" and their annual training clinics on starting your own non-profit. Over the next four years, the Scomas made the required preparations (securing the necessary land, animals, Board of Directors, and working crew) to ensure the success of Guided Hope. On May 1st, 2012, their dream became a reality with the official incorporation.
Word soon spread, and they grew a volunteer base, which continues to support guests each summer. Guided Hope will soon celebrate their tenth year of offering Roundups and shares its program during over 500 guests visits per year.
