Mission

The mission of HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley is to provide compassionate and dignified palliative and end-of-life care that prevents and relieves suffering while promoting quality of life for our patients

Background Statement

Hospice of the Valley was incorporated in November 2008 as an independent non-profit hospice. The organization was developed to respond to a need throughout the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys as a result of the closure of Roaring Fork Hospice in June 2008. The initial funding sources of Aspen Valley Hospital, Valley View Hospital, Aspen Valley Medical Foundation, and a very generous individual donor offset the expense of the start-up costs associated with the development of the hospice program.

Hospice of the Valley received its license from the State of Colorado at the end of January 2009, and its federal certification to provide Medicare/Medicaid services in the spring of 2009. In the winter of 2009, Vail Valley Medical Center requested that Hospice of the Valley assume ownership of its home health and hospice entity. VVMC chose the direction of working with a non-profit, locally based organization whose mission aligned with providing services to all in Eagle County. VVMC requested that Hospice of the Valley help them in ensuring that any family or individual residing in Eagle County would be able to access quality community-based home care and hospice services regardless of the ability to pay. Hospice of the Valley welcomed the Eagle River Valley into its local, non-profit organization.

Currently, HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley offers a Medicare-certified home health agency, a private duty home health agency, a Medicare-certified hospice (the only hospice between Denver and Grand Junction), and a full array of Medicaid-waiver programs. It is the only agency providing pediatric home health and hospice services.

The 6,000+square-mile, 3-county service area is supported by our administrative offices in Glenwood Springs.
