The Jackson County Council On Aging thanks you for this opportunity to ask for funding.
We need to buy two new van and retire both of our current vans. Currently we have two passenger vans and one handicapped accessible van. The van we purchased two years ago replaced our only handicapped accessible van. Both of our passenger vans have over 100,000 miles and are currently going 3,000 to 5,000 miles a month. We would like to replace the both of the vans that has over 200,000 miles and the other has 170,000 miles and a few electrical issues. Any funds given though Colorado Gives, would help us meet this goal
Our elders are a large demography in Jackson County with 41% of the population being over 55. Our nearest pharmacies, doctors, dentists, and some specialty therapists are over 60 miles away. Some of our citizens can rely on family and friends to take them on these visits. But many of our people are on their own. Jackson County Council on Aging provides our transportation service to take them on these necessary trips so that they can stay in their own home. We hope that you are willing to help us get two vans.
The vans are also used once a month to go to Steamboat Springs to pick up groceries for our Smile boxes. Smile boxes is a program that purchases fresh fruit and vegetables plus dairy and other items that our citizens can use. Last month the box had milk, bread, blackberries, bananas, cookies, potatoes, onions, petite tomatoes, and face tissue.
We have been blessed with two grants that total $60,000 plus funds that we collected this year. One event was the Wilma Waldron Memorial Bowling tournament. We raised over $4,000. And we still have some left over funding so we are so close can you help us towards our goal of Two New Vans for the Jackson County Council on Aging.
