Mission

The Kiwanis Club of Golden Foundation awards scholarships to Golden High School students based on need first, for the purpose of encouraging advanced education, and rewarding the selected individuals for their academic and civic achievements. The amount of each scholarship depends on the available funds and student needs. During recent years, the average individual award has been $8,000 over four years.

Background Statement

The Kiwanis Club of Golden was organized in 1921, as chartered by Kiwanis International, an organization that promotes service, friendship, and understanding among persons in the community and throughout the world. The Club provides service to youth in the community and persons in need.

The scholarship program is focused on Golden High School students and has been ongoing for many years. The scholarship started as a memorial to Den Galbraith who graduated "Mines" in 1949 with a degree in geological engineering and subsequently had a huge impact on the community of Golden. Recent scholarship recipients attend Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University, and Red Rocks Community College.
