Larimer County Search and Rescue Is in the process of collecting funds to replenish the expenditure it took to purchase a new truck.
I heard more voices. Search and rescue volunteers from Larimer County and Rocky Mountain Rescue had arrived.
Someone said there were 40 people at 11,000 feet on a dark and cold Friday night to help save my life.
I sobbed uncontrollably in my cocoon knowing that these are volunteers who pay for their own gas, food and gear. They invest months to train for rescues with the only payback being the knowledge of helping someone in need.
Working as a unified team, they rigged my sled, or litter, covered me from the blowing snow, administrated more pain meds and in complete control moved me slowly, carefully down 2,300 feet over rough terrain in the dark.

Larimer County Search and Rescue, Inc. (LCSAR) incorporated in 1979 in the State of Colorado as a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
We operate under the authority of the Larimer County Sheriff. By Colorado State statute, the County Sheriff is responsible for search and rescue (SAR). As a separate corporation, Larimer County Search and Rescue, Inc. has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Larimer County Sheriff to provide search and rescue services to the county. We will also provide SAR resources to out of county and out of state agencies when requested through the Larimer County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services Department.
We do not charge the Sheriff or the subjects of SAR missions for our services.
