Eveline Vega graduated from Colorado State University in May 2018 and is living her dream as an environmental specialist. Her powerful words and story are the epitome of our mission:
"I received a Latinas First scholarship as a freshman in 2015. The Latinas First scholarship was a light in a dark tunnel for me. It convinced me that I could go to CSU and graduate from a 4-year university with a degree I'm very proud of. If we start to see ourselves as less then someone else, then we're already falling behind. I don't think a paper can define who we are. I would just like you all to know that every time you choose to invest in the future of a young Latina like myself, you are giving her the confidence, strength, and courage to believe in herself and that is a gift you all have given me and I can't thank you enough for that. I will find a way to accomplish all my goals and dreams because you all have taught me that I have what it takes to do that." Eveline Vega
The Latinas First Foundation celebrates and elevates the Latina community by focusing on the cultural and historical contributions of Latinas in Colorado while providing opportunities and resources for the next generation of Latinas.
Established in 2011 by Juanita Chacon and Meshach Rhoades, the Latinas First Foundation was created to provide a critical network and support for Latinas to reach their highest potential. Colorado plays host to incredible Latina leaders. The organization provides scholarships, mentorship and networking opportunities, and honors Latina Trailblazers and Unsung Heroines. The Latinas First Foundation is unique in that it not only recognizes the impact of Colorado Latina leaders, but also builds a community for other women to thrive.
