The League of Women Voters of the Pikes Peak Region has played a pivotal role in promoting democracy and civic engagement since becoming active in 1937. Our efforts, contributions and leadership have achieved these goals in several ways:

1. Voter Registration & Education: We are instrumental in promoting voter registration/voter updating and providing non-partisan voter education. We organize candidate forums, registration drives and VOTE411 (for local candidates) ensuring more informed and engaged voters, contributing to higher voter turnout and a more representative democracy.

2. Protection of Voting Rights: Our local League has been active in advocated for the protection and expansion of voting rights (ie Voter Service Polling Center in the Hillside Community) and opposing Spring Municipal elections due to the huge disparity difference in minority voter turnout.

3. Policy Research & Advocacy: The League conducts extensive research on various policy issues and takes informed positions to advocate for public policies that promote social and economic justice.

4. Public Forums: We organize candidate forums, providing a platform for candidates to present their views and for the public to engage with political processes.

5. Increased Civic Participation: The League has significantly increased public awareness and participation in the democratic process leading to more engaged and informed citizens, strengthening democracy and leading to more responsive and effective governance.

6. Social Justice & Equality: By advocating for policies that promote social justice, environmental sustainability and economic fairness, our work helps to address inequalities and promote a more just and equitable society.

Mission

Empower Voters. Defend Democracy.

Background Statement

The League of Women Voters has fought since 1920 to improve our systems of government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy. The League is a nonpartisan grassroots organization, working at the national, state and local levels.

League of Women Voters of the Pikes Peak Region (LWVPPR) has been active since 1937.

LWVPPR members actively promote voter and civic education for the public and themselves. You can find League volunteers registering voters in high schools and naturalization ceremonies, discussing campaign finance in public forums and presenting the pros and cons of the issues on your election ballot.

The League of Women Voters is strictly nonpartisan; it neither supports nor opposes candidates for office at any level of government. At the same time, the League is wholeheartedly political and works to influence policy through advocacy. It is the original grassroots citizen network, directed by the consensus of its members nationwide. Locally, LWVPPR has taken positions on parks, water quality and health care, among other topics.
