My first medical mission trip was in 2008. I was mesmerized by the beauty of the people and the country. I felt an overwhelming appreciation for the average Ugandan’s sense of community. I observed a profound and rich awareness each individual had for one another. The Ugandans welcomed me effortlessly and integrated me into their lives. It was on this trip that I met Simon Menya. Over the course of many years and numerous trips to Uganda, Simon and I collaborated on my projects to help the Ugandan people. Together, we gathered needed resources and aid, and worked on ideas and plans that would help build a brighter future for all.

As a Family Nurse Practitioner, it was natural for me to gravitate towards providing medical care for the young and old. I was first involved with mobile clinics that went to the local villages. It was during those trips that I earned the nickname "Dr. Sue." Our goal quickly became to provide care through a permanent health center and this center became a reality in January of 2014. The facility was outfitted with a water well that is used by everyone in Akonyibedo. The facility itself has solar power, which gives us the freedom to utilize many tools.

After establishing health outreach programs, education naturally followed. Following the devastating 20-year war, Ugandans had a renewed interest in expanding their educational opportunities. Lift Up Uganda cultivated and supported these aspirations.  Simon and I were full of ideas and innovations that we wanted to develop and share with the Ugandans. Little did I know how Uganda and the Ugandan people would become a part of my family.

We hope you will continue to support Lift Up Uganda (LUU) so we can continue to assist Uganda and be a part of their futures. Contact us about how you can help and please continue with your donations. May the Lord reward you for your kindness. Ruth 1:8.
