Background Statement
Recognizing the plight of exploited, abused, neglected and war-ravaged orphans in Thailand and Burma, LightBridge has operated three orphanages since 2006. Through faithful sponsors, these orphans are lovingly cared for in family-style homes where they are fed, clothed, provided an education, taught about the love of their Creator and given the opportunity to become adults with enormous potential.
In 2010 we opened a school. When we first became involved in the minefield village, we held a meeting and asked the community what their greatest needs were. Without hesitation they identified education for their children as their number one need. The people who live in this village are the poorest of the poor. They could have asked for more food, medical care, or clean water - all of which they desperately need. More than any of those things, the people of the MineField Village realize that education is their ticket to rise above poverty.
Now, the school is educating children through grade three, and we are planning to expand through grade five with the construction of a new building, and hiring more teachers in the years to come.
As we worked to bring education and clean water to the MineField Village, we witnessed women and mothers subjecting themselves to the dangers of the border in search of work in neighboring Thailand. With no options for work and few resources in their own village, they had no choice but to leave their children alone for months at a time. We could not continue to witness this cycle and do nothing, and so LandMine Design, a jewelry company based in Denver, was born. LandMine Design employs and educates once vulnerable women living in the MineField Village. At LandMine Design we equip women to be self sustaining providers for their families and community for generations to come. Jewelry is a vehicle driving great change, and it is a privilege to serve a modern marketplace and share the story God is unfolding far and wide. When you purchase jewelry from LandMine Design you are making it possible for us to continue to hire women with no other options.
