Downturns in ag, energy and COVID have battered us. Donations from 44 small shops made July Jamz, the 18-year event happen. Record crowds came, but funding for operating expenses is still non-existent. Our tiny budget allows for a part-time director to guide our board, funding is tight. Thanks!

All of those aspects are critical to traditional economic development and business growth initiatives. - Trae Miller, Executive Director of LCEDC

LOCAL is the not-for-profit umbrella agency for the Sterling Creative District based in Sterling. The Arts League is continually impacting the community through creating public art, supporting local businesses and hosting events and programs for all ages, elevating Sterling and Logan County as the art and culture center of northeast Colorado. - Joe McBride, Logan County Commissioner, District 2.

I am beyond grateful for the efforts of LOCAL "Logan County Arts League". They have been the light shining at the end of the tunnel as we emerge from the long winter that has been Covid19! They have been instrumental in providing a multitude of outlets for individual's artistic endeavors, with many different classes and workshops at Sterling Creatives! The High Plains Film Festival that will allow local talent to display their love of film and provide entertainment to our community. They always have something going on for people of all ages, drawing people away from their cell phones and letting the experience life as it was intended with real social interactions! The beautiful art in public places is one of my favorites as it brightens our community and helps showcase and attract visitors to our awesome local business. LOCAL and the Sterling Creative District have been and will continue to be an integral part of revitalizing and promoting our unique and wonderful historic Downtown! LOCAL is the light in the darkness! - David Appelhans, Mayor, City of Sterling.

LOCAL rebranded a longstanding arts organization and assumed its assets and programming. This gave the organization a strong foundation from which to build new events and programming. A board was formed by attracting diverse skillsets. LOCAL applied for and was awarded a Creative District designation to further develop the downtown portion of the Sterling community. With that designation, LOCAL is transforming the downtown while developing an array of arts related activities which serve to attract tourists and strengthen the social fabric of the community. - Karen Ramey-Torres, Director of Northeast regional Engagement Center, CSU.

Background Statement

Logan County Arts League, formerly known as The Sterling Arts Council was founded May 11, 1971 and formally registered with the Secretary of State on June 22, 1990. An application for 501(c)(3) status had been submitted to the Internal Revenue Service on July 2, 1975 and was approved/granted to the organization on August 25, 1975. Through the years, the Arts Council was very active in the community sponsoring many concerts and arts related events. As the years went by, members passed and the group participating dwindled until there were less than a handful of active members supporting the organization's efforts.

In 2018, Logan County Arts League (LOCAL) was created and merged with the Sterling Arts Council to revitalize interest in the arts in Logan County. Soon after the merger, the Sterling Creative District was formed under the LOCAL umbrella and gained state certification December 2019. The Office of Economic Development, CSU Engagement Office, Logan County Arts Council, Logan County Chamber of Commerce and a wide range of artists, municipal government officials and community members gathered together in an effort to create LOCAL and the Creative District.

LOCAL has been a 501(c)(3) umbrella organization for the creation of both the Sterling Creative District and the upcoming High Plains Film Festival 2022. The seventeen-year tradition of July Jamz has been joined by Art in the Square, Artstober, and the annual Zombie Crawl, to name a few new annual community events.
