The only locally-based nonprofit in Colorado dedicated to serving individuals and families dealing with Lupus. Every dollar stays in the State to fund patient assistance, education, and medical research. We provide emergency funding for medical, dental, transportation, food and utilities. Our Stanford evidence-based education program encourages self-management, accountability, and healthy living, giving control back to the patient. More than 30,000 individuals in Colorado are diagnosed with Lupus.

Mission

The mission of the Lupus Foundation of Colorado is to improve the quality of life for people living with lupus by advancing community education and awareness; by providing patient and family services; by promoting research for the prevention, early diagnosis, effective treatment and discovery of a cure for the disease; and by advocating for patients, family and community.

Background Statement

Celebrating 51 years of serving Colorado! Originally organized in 1972 by a group of volunteers, Lupus Foundation of Colorado is the only nonprofit organization in Colorado dedicated to assisting the needs of people with lupus and their families. Our mission to improve the quality of life for people living with lupus and to promote efforts for the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure of lupus is facilitated by staff, numerous volunteers and a dedicated board of directors. Ongoing projects, interactive social media, support groups and a Stanford evidence-based education program are supported by individual donors, grants, corporate donations, event fundraising, and bequests are evidence of the depth of our efforts. Of individuals diagnosed with lupus, 90% are women. People of Color are three times more apt to be diagnosed with this disease. With an annual budget of $200,000, Lupus Colorado services reach those afflicted with lupus, their families, caregivers and friends.
