Background Statement
Mater Filius (“Mother and Child”) was founded in March 2003 in Mexico City as a nonprofit Catholic Apostolate to serve women and their families facing an unexpected pregnancy. Our mission is to Defend Life with Love! Our goal is facilitating generational change. We work to save babies, defend the dignity of the mother, help women develop into the role of motherhood, and support families in distress.
Mission: Mater Filius Colorado Springs (MFCS), which opened in 2024, is providing a safe and nurturing environment for pregnant women of all faiths, supporting the basic needs of shelter, food, clothes, support, and hope. Providing such support to pregnant women, including dignified housing, affirms their choice for life for their unborn child, nurtures their own lives and those of their children, and provides a stable start for their growing family.
Meeting the need: MFCS will address the desperate need for dignified housing for homeless pregnant women. We are the only housing resource focused specifically on pregnant women in Colorado Springs. MFCS occupies a beautiful home at St Gabriel’s parish in Briargate to provide dignified housing for up to 10 moms and their children.
Our history: In September of 2020, God and Our Blessed Mother raised up this ministry in Colorado Springs. Three concerned groups were praying about how better to serve pregnant women in need of housing. We began meeting on a regular basis, quickly garnering the support of the Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs. We affiliated with the well-established nonprofit, Mater Filius, making us the 23rd world-wide affiliate and the 6th in the United States. Affiliating with such a robust group with a proven track record and partaking of the substantial ongoing support ensures a successful MFCS endeavor and happy outcomes for both moms and their children.
