Make Mental Health Matter is a mental health and suicide awareness 501c3 nonprofit organization.

Our mission is to empower humans by providing the knowledge and skills needed to navigate difficult conversations about mental health, substance abuse, and suicide. We firmly believe that education and open conversations have the power to saves lives!

Our vision is to stop the stigma and normalize the conversation about mental health and suicide through educational classes and community events to reach one million people by 2030.

Community. Connection. Conversation.

Empowering Minds; Saving Lives! We aren't just saying mental health matters, we are taking action to MAKE mental health matter. Through Awareness, Conversation and Education!

The Problem

Mental Health is the epidemic, suicide is the action that occurs from a mental condition, including but not limited to, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse, which are all risk factors. Or past traumatic experiences like child abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape, grief or loss, divorce, bullying, head trauma or any type of trauma throughout life can also be a huge factor.  And we know there is not enough Mental Health facilities or providers to support the amount of people in need or suffering from a mental health condition. This lack of resources is causing people to attempt or complete the act of suicide due to feelings of being alone or not having another option. Our future and our past are dying by their own hands and the stigma and silence that surrounds mental health needs to be eliminated.

Why Make Mental Health Matter??

Have you experienced the loss of someone to suicide, substance abuse, or another mental health challenge, and found yourself uttering phrases like these:"

I wish I had recognized the warning signs earlier."

"If only I knew how to support them before it was too late."

"I had no idea they were struggling."

"I felt helpless; I didn't know how to offer assistance."

"If only they had reached out to me."

"I wish I knew how to help"

Here's where our mission begins...We provide you with the essential tools, resources, and education to empower yourself and others in similar situations. Whether you want to make a difference in someone else's life or seek support for yourself, we are here for you. Our aim is to connect those facing mental health challenges with trustworthy resources and ensure that help is accessible. We serve both youth and adults, fostering a community dedicated to understanding, compassion, and proactive support.

The Founder Kelli Melissa Reinhardt (Hansen) lost her middle sister Carrie to a completed suicide on Feb 20th, 2017. We open up the conversation about mental health, so that we start breaking down the stigma. You cannot always see a mental health challenge or know how to address it until it is too late, and we lose a life to a completed suicide.

Background Statement

đź’š The Story of Make Mental Health Matter

At Make Mental Health Matter, we believe mental health isn’t optional -it’s essential. We exist for the people who feel unseen, unheard, or unprepared and we equip them with the courage, words, and tools to change that.

We stand by the ones quietly carrying the weight of the world: the helpers, the caregivers, the parents running on empty, the youth holding secrets they don’t know how to share, the veterans who’ve seen too much, and the survivors who never asked to join “the club no one wants to be part of.”

We’re not just raising awareness, we’re taking action to make conversations about mental health, suicide, and recovery both normal and life-saving.

Our mission is to empower humans with the knowledge and skills to navigate difficult conversations about mental health, substance use, and suicide because open, educated conversations save lives.

Through our LoveLife L;ve Program, we’re filling the gap so people don’t have to choose between paying bills and taking care of their mental health. This program provides low-cost access to mental wellness for those with limited resources or high-deductible insurance, helping eliminate barriers, shorten waitlists, and collaborate with coaches and providers who care. Most importantly, it gives people their power back to care for themselves, prioritize self-love, and take action toward healing.

Our Give Youth a Voice program will empower middle schoolers to lead the movement for change - built by youth, for youth - so they can learn to express themselves, support peers, and speak openly about mental health.

And through the Make Mental Health Matter Show, we amplify real voices - of loss, hope, and resilience -reminding people everywhere that help and hope still exist.

Everything we do, whether it’s training, storytelling, or community outreach is guided by our A.C.E. approach: Action. Conversation. Education. We focus on prevention, intervention, and postvention, walking beside people at every step of their mental health journey.

We are educators, connectors, and advocates for hope. Because we aren’t just saying mental health matters, we’re taking action to MAKE mental health matter.

đź’« Join the Movement

You don’t have to be a therapist or expert to save a life, just someone willing to learn, listen, and show up. When you take a class, volunteer, sponsor an event, or simply share the conversation, you help break stigma and build hope. Together, we can create a world where no one feels alone in their struggle.

Join our movement whether through volunteering, becoming a monthly Warrior for Mental Health donor, coming to an event, taking a class, taping into our programs or sharing our nonprofit with others. You can help create a wave of action to MAKE mental health matter.
