Monument Academy is excited to share some thrilling news about a transformative project that will have a lasting impact on our school community.  Monument Academy is planning an ambitious project to build a multi-sport turf field and track. This facility will provide opportunities for our students and community.

At Monument Academy, we believe in nurturing well-rounded students. Physical education and athletics are vital in developing leadership, discipline, and a strong sense of community among our students.

Why This Project Matters

Monument Academy has a flourishing middle school athletics program and our high school athletic program is participating in our first year in CHSAA. This project matters as our student-athletes have to travel for all their athletic events to different locations around the city to play their home games.  With this new space, our athletes will benefit from practicing in a facility that provides consistency and safety; our students will benefit from utilizing this new space for their physical education classes and the events that students will be able to make memories of and build a tradition of Monument Academy.

Join Us in Making This Vision a Reality

Today, we are thrilled to officially kick off our capital campaign for the multi-sport field and invite all Monument Academy families to join us in making this vision a reality. We plan to transform the field north of Monument Academy East Campus into a turf field and track that will provide opportunities for football, soccer, track, and lacrosse.  Your involvement is critical to the success of this project, and there are many ways to support this effort.

Over the coming weeks, you will receive more information about the various opportunities to contribute and get involved. Whether through a financial contribution, volunteering, or spreading the word, every action brings us closer to our goal.

A Legacy for Tomorrow

This multi-sport field is more than just a facility—it’s an investment in our students, our school, and our community. Thank you for your continued support of Monument Academy. Together, we can create something exceptional for our children and generations.

We look forward to embarking on this exciting journey with you!

Mission

The mission of Monument Academy is to provide a challenging, content-rich, academic program offered within an engaging, caring, and positive learning environment. Established on a solid foundation of knowledge, Monument Academy emphasizes academic excellence, respect, responsibility, character and exemplary citizenship.

Background Statement

Monument Academy holds to the self-evident truth known to the ancients and to the Founding Fathers that virtue is the well-charted but too-little traveled road to true happiness. And we do mean virtue, not post-modern “values,” a term that implies “whatever I do, whatever my unruly passions and appetites urge on me, is okay; so don’t judge me!” There are right and wrong answers in human living no less clear than the simplest addition problem. We abandon or try to cheat these moral answers at our own peril and to the despair of those around us, especially those we care about. The right answers in every human life are to be attained through the practice of the virtues. Those virtues, sources of our moral excellence, consist in the bold ancient virtues— temperance, courage, justice, prudence—as well as the softer virtues, both ancient and modern—honesty, politeness, gratitude—that weave the noble tapestry of the “unbought grace of life.” Students at MA acquire the virtues through the Character First Program. They further study the virtues in the great stories, real and imaginary, that comprise the human pageant. In time, they read the philosophic truth of Socrates:

For I go around doing nothing but persuading both young and old among you not to care for your body or your wealth in preference to or as strongly as for the best possible state of your soul, as I say to you: “Wealth does not bring about virtue, but virtue makes wealth and everything else good for men . . .

Character pervades the curriculum. Character—not magic—is the source of Cinderella’s reward. Character—in the form of industry—leads Franklin to discover and to invent. Character—as we are told through the story of the Ring of Gyges—points to “the actions of a man if he knew he would never be found out” (Macaulay). Character is the hard currency—as Washington showed—with which heroism (or simply goodness) is gained and nations are made. At MA it is not our design to make students behave grudgingly and only when a teacher is in the room. Our sole concern is not just to keep them from cheating on tests. True, we insist upon discussion in the classroom, decorum in the halls. Yet our greater hope is that young people will do the good for the best reason of all: because they love it.
