Testimonials

A military friend introduced me to MRP and I chose to participate out of hope it would help me gain some new coping skills and relief from my dark thoughts. Since leaving the military I've been struggling with PTSD and sought help from the VA and now from MRP. The time I spent with MRP was seriously awesome; Tom and the volunteers were truly great in the way they genuinely cared for each vet and his issues. I was pleased with the skills they taught and will make every attempt to use the skills on my bad days. Most importantly, it was great to hear other vets speak to their issues and how they were the same issues as mine. The week spent with MRP showed me I'm not alone in the world of PTSD and I found new friends who I can reach out to when in need to vent to someone who understands or who just wants to go ride motorcycles. Thank you Tom and the MRP staff!!!

Mission

The mission of the Motorcycle Relief Project is to provide relief to veterans and first responders with PTSD and other invisible injuries by taking them on structured and professionally led multi-day motorcycle adventure tours designed to help them decompress, get unstuck, connect with other veterans and first responders, and take meaningful steps toward recovery from their injuries..

Background Statement

Motorcycle Relief Project was founded in December 2014 by Tom Larson, a civilian who has struggled with symptoms of PTSD in his own life. After learning about the issue of veterans/first responders and PTSD and all of the factors that often go along with it including depression, anxiety, isolation, substance abuse, divorce and suicide, Tom founded MRP as a way to use motorcycling to bring veterans and first responders together to work on their issues. MRP was granted 501c3 status by the IRS in April of 2015, and conducted its first Relief Ride in August of 2015. MRP has now conducted 63 Relief Rides and had 435 veterans and first responders go through its program, some of which have credited the program with saving their lives.

In 2022 Tom stepped down and Mike Bobbitt assumed the role of President. Martin Sohlberg assumed the role of Chairman of the Board.
