In Colorado, 1 in 4 adults, and over 12% of students in public schools have disabilities, but this is just the beginning of the story. Many more individuals living with disabilities remain unseen by these statistics, and the challenges they face are compounded by limited access to inclusive wellness programs. The impact is even more pronounced among students of color, with 40% of Colorado public school students with disabilities identified as Hispanic and Latino. Individuals with disabilities are 44% more likely to experience depression than their peers, underscoring the urgent need for accessible mental and physical wellness solutions.
At Move Through Yoga, we believe that everyone—regardless of physical, intellectual, or developmental ability—deserves equal access to the healing and transformative benefits of yoga. Through our adaptive yoga programs, we empower individuals with disabilities to reclaim their well-being, build inner strength, and experience the joy of movement in an inclusive, supportive environment. Through our training and coaching programs, we empower those who work directly with individuals with disabilities with the necessary skills to safely and effectively implement our techniques in their unique settings. Through our advocacy event, The Yoga Wave, we unite people of all abilities for a powerful, community-wide celebration of inclusion, featuring adaptive yoga, connection, and a resource fair with like-minded organizations and businesses.
We are calling on you to help us reach our Giving Tuesday goal of $125,000 so that we can continue to provide and expand upon these life-changing services. Here’s how your donation can make a lasting impact:
1. Train the Changemakers: Your contribution will fund a 35-hour training for up to 10 educators, parents, or professionals who work with students with disabilities. Currently, many schools and agencies lack the resources to train their staff in adaptive methodologies, despite a growing demand. Your donation will allow us to meet this need, equipping more schools with the tools to create inclusive wellness spaces. Gift: $6,800
2. Carry a Class: For every gift given, you can fund 8, 1-hour adaptive yoga classes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in schools (special education classrooms or Unified PE classrooms), transition centers, and day programs. These classes are tailored to meet each student's unique needs, using specialized props like blocks, straps, and chairs to ensure a safe and supportive environment. With your help, students across Colorado will gain access to physical and mental health support that would otherwise be out of reach. Gift: $5,700
3. Yoga Wave Champion: Our signature event, The Yoga Wave, is a powerful movement that unites over 400 students with disabilities, peer mentors, and educators for an inclusive yoga experience, followed by a community resource fair. We call it The Yoga Wave because, like the ebb and flow of breath—inhales bringing in, exhales letting go—a wave symbolizes the power of connection and change. It’s a social movement with the potential for a lasting ripple effect. With a donation of $18,000, you can ensure that this transformative event remains free for students, families, and nonprofit partners, allowing us to expand The Yoga Wave into more schools and communities nationwide. Gift: $18,000
Why Your Support Matters: This past year, through the generosity of our donors, we hosted The Yoga Wave at the Gold Crown Foundation Fieldhouse, kicking off Disability Awareness Month in Colorado with over 400 students and 100 volunteers. For many students, this was their first time participating in an adaptive wellness program designed just for them. The ripple effect of this event is immeasurable, as students not only gain physical benefits but also feel seen, included, and celebrated.
Your support allows us to continue offering these transformative experiences. Every donation moves us closer to a future where all individuals—regardless of ability—can access the mental and physical health benefits of yoga, empowering them to live fuller, healthier lives.
