Testimonials

I moved up here 22 years ago as a single mother. During that time I've been on both sides of the food line. I've helped distribute food for Thanksgiving and Christmas and although not a food pantry regular I've received help from them as well. For the past years I've always worked full time and often had a second and sometimes third job. I can usually make ends meet but there have been times (usually medical related) that I have needed help making it through the month. During these times the food pantry has literally saved me! I don't ask for help often, and I hate to be in the situation to need to, however...when I've needed that extra boost to get by I do show up there. I usually walk in feeling pretty humble and low, and then leave feeling uplifted and supported! It's about so much more than the food. Chris and everyone else there do a fantastic job, and are non judgmental. I feel part of this amazing community that has my back!

I am a 56 yo female, who, due to a car/bike hit and run has life injuries that have left me disabled. The food panty has and will continue to help me fill the gaps in my nutritional needs that BOCO county assistance fails to meet.
-- Pam Hill

I first moved to Nederland in the fall of 2010. My first job was at Eldora who paid me $8.40/hr. Needless to say the food bank helped me immensely since rent took my whole paycheck. Thanks food bank for the occasional help!

-- Ben Davis

Going to the Nederland food pantry allowed me, as a single mother of 3, the comfort in knowing my kids would not go to bed or wake up hungry as I got back on my feet again.

-- Bee, Nederland Resident

With the support of the Nederland Food Pantry and Clothing Closet, I was able to transition from living out of my car with my young child to securing housing and enrolling my child in Nederland Elementary School. I am so incredibly grateful for the kindness and assistance.

Mission

"The mission of the Nederland Food Pantry is to relieve hunger and provide essential support to the Peak to Peak Community in a respectful and compassionate manner."

Background Statement

The Nederland Food Pantry was started in 1986 by several local women who observed hunger was reaching an unacceptable level in their community. They were members of local churches, including the Nederland Community Presbyterian Church and St. Rita's Catholic Church. Through the auspices of these churches, they started the Food Pantry, operating out of closets in the church community rooms. The pantry was under the umbrella of the Presbyterian Church non-profit status until 2015, when it created its own, independent 501c3. The Town of Nederland donated a permanent location for the pantry in 2013 in the west wing of the Nederland Community Center. The food pantry was also allowed to use the extended covered hallway behind the building to establish gardens to provide fresh produce for their clients. In 2016, the food pantry had an opportunity to receive a transportation van, eliminating the need for volunteers to use their own cars to pick up food in the metro area. The Nederland Food Pantry has grown slowly and carefully, but keeps pace with the size of the need in their community.
