The New Hope Baptist Church is a historically Black organization serving Denver since 1922. Originally the First Presbyterian Church, it was renamed in 1947. Then located at 22nd and Ogden St., New Hope became a center for the civil rights movement just a few years later.
New Hope has a long history of serving the northeast Denver community. Led by the Rev. Dr. Eugene Downing Jr., New Hope's current ministries include food distribution, holiday meals, a summer youth camp, a health and wellness ministry, social justice outreaches, and many other efforts. The community we serve is diverse: Northeast Park Hill's demographics show that 42 percent of residents are Black, 26 percent are Latino, 45 percent are White, and 7 percent are two or more races. While the median age in the neighborhood is 26, 5 percent of residents are over age 75, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
We take our direction from Jesus' words in Matthew 25:40: "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
