OUR MISSION

The New Local Nonprofit (TNL) champions local women and nonbinary artists while building bridges between these creators and the broader community. We focus our outreach towards the most vulnerable populations within Boulder county, fostering accessible, innovative art education for everyone.

Why it is important to support THE NEW LOCAL & our DOWNTOWN arts hub:

A) We provides local artists with opportunities to grow an audience and earn a living.

B) We infuse the historic heart of our city with creative programming for EVERYONE.

C) We help the city to magnetize visitors and locals who patronize restaurants, shops and hotels, thereby contributing to the economic vitality (and tax basis) of Boulder.

D) We foster economic prosperity and social integration for women and underserved populations, within our community.

E) We embody environmental sustainability, re-imagining historic buildings for community use.

Read More About Our Community Programs:

1. TNL Scholarship Program ~ we grant full and partial scholarships to Boulder County students and adults in need, ages 3-18 and 65+ so that they may participate in our workshop series, alongside paying students.

2. Motherhood & Creativity ~ granting a new mother studio and exhibition space for two months in our Annex, during which time she holds regular women's circles for other new mothers and our community partner, Community Roots Midwife Collective (Expectant and Post-Partum women of color).

3. Artists in Residence & Community ~ a rotating roster of juried, local artists are given a six week exhibition space in our downtown Annex. During this time they hold open studio hours and teach free classes to the community and select workshops with our community partners: OUT Boulder (LGBTQ+ Teens), Canyon Pointe (Low-income Adults 62+), The Lodge (Women/Transgender-unhoused), Natural Highs (At-risk teens) and El Centro Amistad (Compañeras: Latinx Mothers and Children, Raices Vives: Latinx Teens & Arte Sane: Art & Mental Health Group).

4. Field Trips with New Horizons Preschool~ Weekly field trips for 15 students enrolled in New Horizons bilingual preschool, over 65% of students are from very low income households and over 50% are from hispanic/non-white families. This program started organically during an art class with El Centro Amistad. The prek teacher was attending the class and asked if we could do a month long field trip with their students to learn about clay. After the 4-week class we received a one time grant from the Addy Foundation to continue the program in the spring of ‘24.

5. TNL Workshop Series ~ local artists give workshops to the community in a myriad of disciplines; sliding fees available.

6. El Centro Amistad, Arte Sana ~ TNL teaches monthly classes to the women of El Centro Amistad, in a variety of disciplines; Amistad's choice.  This program culminates in an exhibition at The Boulder Public Library in 2025.

8. International Women's Day ~ a 2 day celebration of International Women's Day! Day 1~ TNL invited local schools for hands on art activities taught by local, women artists, a gallery tour and more! Day 2~ community celebration with all ages, free art activities.

Mission

The New Local Nonprofit (TNL) champions local women and nonbinary artists while building bridges between these creators and the broader community. We focus our outreach towards the most vulnerable populations within Boulder county, fostering accessible, innovative art education for everyone.

Background Statement

The New Local Nonprofit (TNL) champions local, female-identifying and nonbinary artists, while building bridges between these creators and the broader community. We focus our outreach towards the most vulnerable populations within Boulder County, fostering accessible, innovative art education for everyone. Historically, culturally and economically, women and non-binary creators have been underpaid and underrepresented in galleries, museums and senior positions within the creative industries. The New Local seeks to redress this by fostering a level playing field for women working within the creative industries locally, while modeling an equitable organization.

Historically marginalized community members and individuals with lived experiences are not just beneficiaries of our programs, they are the architects of change. We engage these individuals as key members of our community, inviting them to participate in decision-making processes, program ideation, and implementation. By doing so, we honor their expertise, perspectives, and aspirations, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in the outcomes.

Since the opening of our brick and mortar location on November 15, 2022, we have championed the creative work of 210 local, women and non-binary artists, while providing opportunities for these women to connect with the broader community in meaningful ways. This includes: 27 free public art events, 19 local field trips and over 350 visual arts/writing classes, many on a sliding scale or by donation. To help reach underserved populations in our Boulder community we partner with El Centro Amistad, New Horizons Cooperative Preschool, Rocky Mountain Equality, Community Roots Midwife Collective, and Chautauqua.
