Join us to build dream homes for deserving moms and kids in the new year!
NIVAS helps families dealing with homelessness, marginalization, and poverty find dignity, strength, and security through the process of building their dream home. Our focus is on women-led families in under-served regions of Nepal.
Nivas was founded in 2013 by four Denver-based construction and design professionals who have strong experience in the nonprofit sector. After working with Architecture for Humanity, Habitat for Humanity, American Institute of Architects and building many projects abroad the team asked themselves "Who better to offer their services to people experiencing poverty than industrious and dedicated people like us?"
For just over a decade, NIVAS has been helping women living in vulnerable situations to take back their story and make it their own. With our efforts and partnerships, we've been able to end homelessness for more than 450 kids and parents, 👏 while creating meaningful jobs, training, and business opportunity along the way.
In 2025, as we venture into new districts where single mothers have been experiencing extreme racial and gender discrimination on top of recurrent natural disasters, we're asking women and men to come together to help us expand our reach to build new homes for more women-led families and provide them training and business seed capital for a sustainable future. Our programs will include training hundreds of indigenous women on their resources for gaining land and resilient housing for their families.
Our program starts by searching out women and their children living in the shadows, without housing, and without access to loans and other resources to build their own home. We then commit to being her right-hand woman, standing by her as she navigates through procuring land, and finding the materials and volunteer labor that she can contribute. From there, it's on to construction training and into building her home together. Once safely sheltered, we support her in the development of a viable and context-relevant home business.
All along the way, the women in our program find their voice and establish a stronger place in their community. By the end, everyone can see the true person inside: a woman, a mother, a thinker, a doer, a homeowner.
