Today your support will make the difference in the life of a young person as we come alongside youth in need of assistance.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Your financial donation keeps our drop-in space open and available for young people to have a place for assistance, as well as fun.                                                                                                                      Donate. Big or small, every dollar helps.

You can make the difference, as we count on your support of $10 or even more per month. This allows us to provide supplies such as snacks, crucial supplies, and toilet paper or contribute to our drop-in space rent and utilities.  Your donation impacts our community youth in a big way!

  • Legacy Gifts. Consider us in your Planned Giving. Legacy gifts allow you to leave a legacy and support the causes you care about without feeling the financial impact in your lifetime.
  • One Time and Monthly Donations. Your gifts make the difference in our supporting youth, whether it be helping a youth get their first rental or help paying for some cleaning supplies, keeping our drop-in space open more hours or snacks. Your donation helps us do the work to support youth and prevent youth homelessness.

Oak Tree Youth Resources offers support in rural Southwest Colorado

Oak Tree Youth Resources gives young people a place to hang out and belong while they receive personalized, comprehensive assistance when they need support and if they find themselves in despair and crisis.  We offer young people their own space they can easily access in Durango, serving rural Southwest Colorado. Providing youth a place to feel safe, connect with others, and have fun while getting the support they need can positively impact a healthy well-being.

These are some of the ways we work with youth ages 12-24 in rural Southwest Colorado:

  • Drop-In Center gives youth a safe space to hang out and be themselves.
  • Supportive services for unhoused youth and young people who are at-risk of homelessness.
  • Education: Assistance for homeless and at-risk youth to re-enter school.
  • Housing: Assistance with seeking rentals, rental application, deposit, and rental support, when available.
  • Employment: Assistance with creating a resume and completing an employment application.
  • Health care: Information about physical and mental health care services and assistance making appointments with a provider.
  • Offering a space for young people to voice how they think and feel as they cope with life.
  • Personal care: Hygiene supplies and safe sex kits.

  • Free clothing for young people.
  • Free Transit tokens.
  • Assistance obtaining copies of vital documents.
  • Free laundry.

Mission

Our mission is to offer youth facing various hardships support with education, employment and life skills as we walk alongside them to help prevent youth homelessness, and promote a healthy well-being.

Background Statement

An Oak Tree is strong, steady, and rooted. The branches of the tree get battered in the wind, yet it remains strongly rooted regardless of the season. In the tiny acorn there is a promise that has not yet come to pass. When planted, the acorn can grow into a strong and sturdy tree.

Oak Tree Youth Resources began with a plan to focus on assisting youth aging out of foster care. The need was bigger than we knew in 2020 and our small dream grew quickly into something bigger than we imagined. We have housed over 120 young people to date, whether in an emergency situation or transitional living assistance, the need has not stopped.

We believe that young people deserve to be safe and healthy. They are to be seen and heard, allowing them to grow, determine their lives, and be a vital part of their community.

When young people encounter crisis and have no one and no where to turn, we are here to step in and try to bring calm to the storm.

Providing a youth drop-in center is one small step in the chance to reach young people in need. Many youth are hurting and too many times don't know where to turn. Youth deserve the right to have emotional and physical support through help with food, housing, education, employment, and other assistance.

Our present and future depends on seeing and helping youth.

Serving youth. Serving Community.
