Old Soul Canine Rescue

A nonprofit organization

Founded in 2021, Old Soul Canine Rescue is a 501c3 charitable organization that operates in the foothills of Colorado’s beautiful Front Range. We collaborate with our foster, adoptive, and community partners to place senior dogs in loving homes where they will live the rest of their lives with honor and respect. Amongst other goals, Old Soul is working to create a sanctuary space for those senior dogs that are still waiting for their forever homes or maybe hospice cases that will spend the rest of their lives in our care.

Mission

Old Soul Canine Rescue is an empathetic, volunteer-driven, non-profit organization that provides time, energy, resources, and space to support senior dogs and expand our community’s compassion footprint.

We honor senior dogs by giving them our best, for the rest of their lives.

Background Statement

Rachel Schaub and Jasper Webb, Founders and co-presidents, were both kids who loved all kinds of animals. Each grew up with smaller animals, but they always dreamed of including dogs in their lives! After moving to Colorado in 2003 and 2010, respectively, the change in lifestyle and additional space allowed them to expand their passion to include lots of canine pals.

They have each appreciated the unique process of supporting dogs as they age – the inevitable changes in behavior, more trips to the vet for care, lots of happiness, some deep sorrow.

"We learned remarkable lessons that animals can teach us from their immense sensitivity – holding space, listening to another’s feelings, and making intuitive decisions. The invaluable experience of walking beside our dogs through their lives and supporting them as they transitioned into death left an indelible mark on both our hearts." (Jasper and Rachel)

The desire for dogs to be treated with dignity and respect while living their best lives, led them to explore what had become a shared passion – to be ambassadors and guardians for senior dogs. In this spirit, they came together to create something bigger than themselves and founded Old Soul Canine Rescue in October 2021. Old Soul is an empathetic, volunteer-driven organization that provides time, energy, resources, and space to support senior dogs and expand our community’s compassion footprint. The organization honors senior dogs by giving them our best, for the rest of their lives.

The idea of expanding a compassion footprint through this work has become a fundamental part of Old Soul’s principles and was introduced by author Marc Bekoff in his book, The Animals’ Manifesto:

The central theme of The Animals’ Manifesto is that humans and animals are basically good, empathic, compassionate, and fair beings, and that we can all do more to act on behalf of animals.

"In this book, I develop the notion of the “compassion footprint.” I show how we can expand our compassion footprint as we make every attempt to take better care of the animal beings with whom we share our planet." – Marc Bekoff (Expanding Our Compassion Footprint, Greater Good Magazine, May 20, 2010)

Old Soul seeks out like-minded people who welcome the experience of acting as a champion for senior dogs with their whole being.

Always for the dogs 🐾
