Background Statement
Pedaling 4 Parkinson's was started in 2010 by three women whose lives had been impacted by Parkinson's Disease. Rather than sit around doing nothing but watch loved ones suffer with the disease, they decided to start a bike ride to offer support and raise money for research. Knowing very little about organizing such an event, this was an enormous challenge. After a couple of years, they were approached by The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, and became a "Team Fox" partner. The bike ride has grown from only a handful of cyclists the first year to hundreds, and has raised over $874,000 to fund Parkinson's Disease research. In 2023, we turned our focus to our month-long virtual ride. Through social media we are able to engage riders virtually whether inside or outside nationwide. This is truly a grass-roots organization that has grown to become a first-class event, drawing recognition and praise well beyond the borders of Colorado. The Michael J. Fox Foundation refers to Pedaling 4 Parkinson's as "an exemplary event."
In addition to the virtual ride in June, members of the organization are active in other Parkinson's Disease activities and events in Colorado, such as hosting Pints 4 Parkinson’s at Bruz Beers.
