Places to Age is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on bringing a continuum of care facilities to Chaffee County. Our mission is to support those  65+ who want to continue living in Chaffee County by providing suitable housing and services tailored to their needs as aging community members.

Aging is a shared experience, and Chaffee County is no exception. Currently, 27% of our population—over 5,400 people—are aged 65+. By 2050, the State Demographer projects that this number will rise to over 8,000.

Despite this growing need, Chaffee County lacks the appropriate housing options for older adults. There are currently NO Assisted Living or Memory Care facilities in the county, forcing many seniors to leave the community when they require these services.

We are actively working to change that!

Our Recent Progress:

Over the past year, Places to Age has achieved several key milestones in our efforts to bring these much-needed facilities to Chaffee County:

• Annexation of Land: We successfully annexed land into the City of Salida, securing a donated 10-acre site for our project. Two acres will be dedicated to the City of Salida for parkland as part of the annexation agreement.
• Memorandum of Understanding (MOU): We formalized a partnership with the City of Salida through an MOU
• Contract with Industry Experts: We engaged WellAge, an experienced provider in rural Colorado, to help us design a continuum of care community.

With the guidance of WellAge, we are currently developing the architectural design for the 8-acre community, which will potentially include independent living units, assisted living, memory care, and workforce housing. We anticipate having a business plan and financial projections ready by Q2 2025. This will position us to secure the required funding and build out the capital stack.
