We provide services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and we are the only agency that provides these services in our county.

Testimonials

Loretta* called our crisis line scared after her partner had beaten, strangled, and abandoned her the night before. Confused and frightened for her life, she came into our office seeking counsel, support, and a safe place.

We empowered her to see her options and to plan what would be best for her. We were able to provide her with shelter and helped her relocate to a new state. She moved closer to her family and friends where she will be able to find the support she needs to begin her new life.

As with all of our clients, it is a daunting task for them to settle into life after the abuse. It can be overwhelming and intimidating to navigate their newfound independence. With the necessary help and encouragement, survivors can re-establish themselves and live a life free from abuse.

Mission

The mission of Project Hope of Gunnison Valley is to support, educate and provide confidential advocacy to individuals affected by relationship violence and/or sexual assault.

Background Statement

Project Hope received its start in 1985 when a local homeowner donated his home to be used as a shelter for battered women and their children. The shelter was known as Jubilee House. In 1992, the organization obtained non-profit status and continued working and expanding services in the community to support those affected by domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Jubilee House had to close the doors to its shelter due to the cost of running one. Jubilee House began utilizing local hotels and private safe homes to provide temporary shelter for those in need. The organization underwent a name change in 2012 to better reflect the lack of a shelter. In 2014 the organization's board of directors decided to merge with another non-profit that was also offering services for victims. The hope was to consolidate services and to expand funding for those in need.

Services we provide include, but are not limited to; 24/7 crisis line, safety planning, crisis intervention, court advocacy, referrals, protection order assistance, food/clothing, transportation, emergency shelter, follow-up/support, education and outreach. Our services are available to men, women and children in the area (resident or not), they are free, confidential and a victim does not have to make a report to law enforcement to receive services.
