The Renaissance Educational Alliance was formed by the parents of Renaissance Elementary Magnet School in 2018 to help promote volunteering within the parent crew, raise funds to support and supplement school needs, and to plan crew building events. In our school we believe "We are Crew, not passengers," and everyone works together for our common good. To serve is our highest endeavor and to impart that within each of our students matters to us. Fostering a compassionate and curious sense of self, and a resolute belief in one's potential, is at our core. We empower children to believe in the tangibility of their dreams. As mentors, teachers, and families, we own the responsibility of encouraging the young to take an optimistic view of their future.
In addition to their academics, our students all participate in "Voyages" where they spend progressively longer amounts of time with their classroom Crews at camp in the Rockies. Voyage experiences build from year to year. A kindergarten student learns basic skills in navigating the outdoors with safety on day trips, while a sixth grader goes on multi-day trips to explore and face personal and group challenges in the wilderness discovering a stronger self and developing a stronger community.
As the Parent Crew Board that manages the Renaissance Educational Alliance, we fundraise to pay for the transportation for all the school Voyages. We also use our funds to pay for extra guides on Voyages, host annual Gear Swaps to help make costs more manageable for families, fund student scholarships, host staff appreciation, and provide the staff with training, programming, and materials grants.
In addition to Voyages we host two main fundraisers a year, a student led program called Renaissance Adventure Day (RAD) and an adults only Gala and Silent Auction. RAD includes school spirit events, Voyage prep activities, a Service Project for a local organization, and community art. The Gala features locally made and donated items, student art, and "teacher time" for students to participate in special events with members of staff.
REA is organized as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization under the Internal Revenue Code and is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes to support Renaissance Expeditionary Magnet School. The purpose of Renaissance Educational Alliance is to:
1. Support Renaissance Expeditionary Magnet School (REMS) through programming and fundraising;
2. Provide opportunities for parents to contribute as volunteers and/or donors; and
3. Communicate school needs and volunteer opportunities to parents and the community.
The REA was founded, and received 501(c)3 tax exemption, in 2018 to be able to better meet the unique needs and programming at Renaissance Elementary Magnet School.
