Colorado's most precious natural resources, water and soil, need understanding and conserving more than ever. As we strive across the state to create educated community members, the San Luis Valley also wants to engage our children (and future voting community members) with our natural resources.
RGWCEI's impact on our San Luis Valley community is widespread and growing. We offer students the opportunity to engage with the land and the people who work with and on it. This connection is a fantastic way to educate and involve students with their own communities, the land that is necessary for our economy, and the need to conserve natural resources in perpetuity.
The Rio Grande Watershed Conservation & Education Initiative strives to provide dynamic conservation education to the San Luis Valley community through education, connections, collaborations and to increase awareness of natural resource management and working landscapes.
The Rio Grande Watershed Conservation and Education Initiative began as a part time education position within the conservation districts of the Rio Grande Watershed. Over the next ten years, it evolved to a full-time position, and in 2009 became a separate non-profit. Our organization has become a recognized education partner in its own right, but has never lost sight of its original mission - to partner with land management agencies as well as the conservation districts and other NGOs to engage and educate students and community members about sustainable natural resources, particularly within our agricultural economy.
