Testimonials

"I would like to say that I quite simply could not be happier with the school, staff, or administration, and live in daily appreciation of the ways you guys have enriched my daughter's life."

"Thank you all, very, very, much. It's tricky being a single dad, with a full time job, and therefore a huge relief to know that my daughter's childhood is being so diligently and thoroughly indulged."

"The Waldorf values instilled in both of our children during their time at River Song have launched them into this world with a foundation that is so solid. I have no doubt they are going to succeed in whatever direction life takes them."

"River Song Waldorf School has been a blessing since we first walked through its doors years ago looking for a place for our daughter to attend...No other place was like River Song and I would not trade our experience there. River Song offers a uniquely warm, inviting, and beautiful experience for our children with caring, dedicated teachers and staff. The home-like environment, healthy prepared snacks, integration of work and play and an emphasis on experiencing nature every day was exactly what we were hoping for"

"Our family chose River Song as the preschool for both our children because we believe in protecting and fostering the imagination, creativity, and magic of early childhood. River Song's daily walks in nature, seasonal songs and stories, family festivals, wholesome snacks, and nurturing staff have cultivated confidence and ingenuity in our children. Our school's director and teachers have supported and loved our family through delicate milestones and provided us with tools and resources to be the parents we aim to be"

"Our daughter attended River Song and really thrived in the nurturing environment carefully crafted by the staff. We could not of asked for a better place to send her, where she could truly enjoy being a child"

"The minute we stepped foot at River Song for a tour, we knew it was a special place for young children and families. The physical space, staff, and students exuded peace, intention, and caring. We feel so lucky to know that our children have been nurtured, cherished, and loved every single day at school by their friends and teachers! This is a magical and special preschool experience!"

Mission

River Song is a Waldorf Early Childhood accredited preschool in Northern Colorado that celebrates the magic of childhood by cultivating a community rooted in its connection to nature, by promoting imaginative free play, and by fostering growth through imitation and experiential learning.

Serving families from all socio-economic backgrounds, we nourish children the Waldorf way: head, hands, and heart.

Background Statement

River Song Waldorf School has a history that flows through time much like a river, changing course often but keeping a constant focus on its purpose; to educate children through the teachings of Rudolf Steiner. Reaching the hearts, hands and heads of each and every child that crosses its doorways.

The original location of the school was at a family farm. It offered classes from kindergarten to 5th grade. Over the course of many years it was moved from several different locations and grew to a faculty of 10. In the late 1990's, Waldorf Education was thriving in Fort Collins. Unfortunately the post 9/11 economic climate, and a new geographic location led to decreasing enrollment for a period of years.

After much purposeful deliberation, the Board of Trustees voted to close the school in the spring of 2006. It was a sad and stressful time marked by tearful goodbyes and the end of a dream for many. For others there was a "we're not giving up the ship" battle cry. A small contingent of families seeking continued education in the Waldorf method met regularly to research options for early childhood programming and small "in-home" style grades classes. Within a year a brand new early childhood program was launched at 906 E. Stuart St which was leased to River Song by the City of Fort Collins. The building had been vacant for some time and needed extensive upgrading and maintenance. A dedicated group of families volunteered many hours to create the beautiful indoor and outdoor space that River Song Early Childhood now occupies. River Song Early Childhood Program had been operating at this location since September 2006. In 2015, we were graciously donated an old farmhouse 2 doors down from the current location. After two years of design and remodeling, our dream became a reality on September 5th, 2017 when we opened the doors on the new school. We now own our very own building at 900 E. Stuart St. The moved allowed us to increase capacity by adding a third classroom. We are delighted to now offer Waldorf early childhood to more children in this community.

In 2021, we were at a place to expand our offerings and now welcome children 7-12 years of age in nature-based after school and summer camp programs.

Our commitment to providing families of Northern Colorado with the opportunity for an Early Childhood education based on the philosophies of Rudolf Steiner is steadfast and we will honor all the work of our predecessors who were able to maintain a Waldorf School in Fort Collins for 15 years.
