Rooster Sanctuary is the first of its kind, and over the years we have saved thousands of lives with the help of our supporters and our community.
There are thousands of animal rescues and sanctuaries for farm animals, but when we started, there was not one organization out there dedicated to rescuing the most abused bird on Earth in numbers alone, chickens. We founded Rooster Sanctuary at Danzig's Roost in order to provide a safe place for birds that most humans laugh about and would frankly prefer dead. The world is a hard place for chickens. Every second, 9,000 chickens are slaughtered in the US. This number does not reflect the number of male chicks hatched in the egg industry, who are killed the day they hatch, as those baby birds are logged by total mass weight, not as individuals. Male chicks are hatched and killed by the millions each year in the egg industry, because male chicks will never lay eggs.Mission

Background Statement
It all started with roosters...
We provide permanent sanctuary and rescue for animals who have been abused. We realized many years ago that roosters are the number one most discarded farmed animal there is, and that there were very few sanctuaries that could provide a home to these special birds. This brought us to a 40 acre property in Bennett, Colorado where we grew into an effective organization and sanctuary for the worlds most discarded bird.
We provide lifelong care for the animals that live at the sanctuary, and we orchestrate large scale rescue operations and place animals as beloved pets into approved adoptive homes, allowing us to save a higher number of animals in need.
