Testimonials

“We are excited to contribute to the ‘Mountains of Opportunity’ campaign to expand and renovate the Ruby Sisson Library in Pagosa Springs.  We were extremely impressed with the Library’s planned Collaboration Lab to engage families in hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) learning together.  The Library’s STEAM-focused programs help to provide more equitable learning for all youth and create an avenue for youth voice and leadership.  We are honored to partner with the Ruby Sisson Library and know that our contribution towards the Collaboration Lab is a wise investment for our community for years to come.” ~Jessica Matlock, CEO La Plata Electric Association

“The pandemic has highlighted the importance of community places – physical spaces, like libraries, where we can meet, read, and learn together.  We must ensure that libraries are safe, healthy, and accessible to everyone, not only today, but for decades to come.  At the same time, the pandemic has exposed the depths of the digital divide.  Libraries work at the front lines of digital inclusion, but many of them are doing so with twentieth-century facilities.  To solve twenty-first-century problems, libraries need twenty-first-century infrastructure.” ~Julius C. Jefferson, Jr, President American Libraries Association

"We are fortunate to have the Library down the street; a neighbor that simply can't be replaced by the internet. What a great joy for our kids to walk into a place of discovery when they walk through the doors of the Ruby M. Sisson Memorial Library." ~ Justin Cowan, Principal, Pagosa Springs Elementary School

"Thank you - I really appreciate the spectacular service I get at Ruby Sisson and brag all the time about my Pagosa Library. It is probably the most responsive, community-oriented library I've ever used - and I've used a lot of libraries in my 73 years!" ~ Pat Devin

Mission

The mission of the Ruby M. Sisson Memorial Library Foundation is to support and enhance the Ruby M. Sisson Memorial Library by raising funds for information resources, programs, services, and facilities. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization led by a volunteer board of directors and supported by individual donors and community partners.

Background Statement

The Ruby M. Sisson Memorial Library Foundation was formed in 2018 by a group of Pagosa Springs community members who wanted to ensure the future of the facilities and programs of the Ruby Sisson Library.

The Library Foundation provides critical support to the Ruby Sisson Library by:

*Enhancing high-caliber programs and services that nurture literacy, the imagination, and lifelong learning;

*Expanding the Library collection;

*Increasing the footprint of the Library.

The Library Foundation and the Ruby Sisson Library work together, in a strong partnership, to determine where private funds can have the greatest impact for the children and adults of our community. It does not raise money for day-to-day operations; instead, it complements the funding provided by property taxpayers to Archuleta County.
