Double your impact!

The Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey Association is committed to providing our youngest players the opportunity to learn a fun and exciting sport that also teaches teamwork, social skills, discipline and focus without worrying about their financial situation.

The Introduction to Hockey program serves hundreds of boys and girls each year with SSYHA providing the necessary equipment such as sticks, pads, and helmets they need to explore and succeed on the ice safely.  This creates opportunities for all children interested in hockey the same opportunities as their peers.

If you would like to help support equity for our youngest players please make a donation.  Thanks to the inaugural Colorado Youth Sports Giving Day, a collaborative, month-long effort between Aspen Institute Project Play and the Daniels Fund, donations made to SSYHA made September 4th through September 30th will be matched up to $800k.  That means your contribution will have double the impact!

Testimonials

"The SSYHA defined who my kids are today in so many ways. My son and daughter both participated in the SSYHA from mites (age 8-and-under) through their senior year in high school. Being involved in this organization taught them life skills that they will use throughout their adulthood. They both learned how to work hard, set goals, be a team player, build self-confidence and how to truly love and enjoy a sport that they will continue to play for the rest of their lives. I am so grateful that Steamboat had the SSYHA for my children when they were growing up and I hope this organization keeps advancing and thriving for years to come for all the other generations of children growing up here in Steamboat." - Lori Mitchell

My experience throughout being a youth hockey player has provided me the opportunity to learn, grow, and launch my leadership abilities. -Walker Ripley

Hockey taught me about the many different ways to be a leader both on and off the ice.  Indiana Kretzschmar

With a wide open door waiting for me just to walk through, these amazing girls brought me into this hockey family and introduced me to what hockey is all about. Laughter, tears, hardships, but most importantly fun is what these girls opened up to me.-Alexandra Culver

Through youth hockey I’ve learned many important lessons. I’ve learned how practice makes perfect and if you want something you have to work for it. -Lukas Znamenacek

Mission

The Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey Association (SSYHA) is a non-profit corporation committed to leading the growth and development of amateur ice hockey in Northwest Colorado. SSYHA strives to provide a positive hockey experience on and off the ice by developing, educating, and encouraging all participants.

Background Statement

Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey was started in 1994. Kids played hockey outdoors, sometimes showing up an hour early to shovel all the snow off the ice so the Zamboni could resurface the ice. It started off as a small program playing teams like Kremmling, Summit, Oak Creek, Craig and Vail, to now growing to just over 160 kids and playing teams from all over the country. Through many years of efforts within the community and by community members the rink became an indoor arena in the mid-90s. In 2002, before heading to the Olympics, the Gold Medal Winning USA Women's hockey team made a stop in Steamboat, held practices and scrimmaged one of the youth teams, building even more excitement for the youth hockey program. SSYHA has been a large influencing part of numerous families for 25 years.
