HELP SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE SUMMIT COUNTY MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS!
SCoMBA is the Summit County Chapter of the International Mountain Bicycling Association, or IMBA. SCoMBA is the successor organization of the Summit Fat Tire Society (SFTS), which was founded over 30 years ago.
We have helped build, re-route and maintain numerous trails over the years, including: Aqueduct Trail, Aspen Alley, Blair Witch, B-Line/Barney Flow, Colorado Trail, Gifford Pinchot, Groovy Uvi, Keystone Landfill Trails, Lenewee Trail, Peaks Trail, Ptarmigan Trail, Snake River Bluffs, Soda Ridge Trail, and the Tenderfoot Trail System.
We also offer events such as trail work days, mountain bike skills clinics, and social events such as our season kickoff party. In 2022, we hosted our first ever winter mountain bike downhill race at Arapahoe Basin called Slush N' Spokes. It was such a great hit, that we brought it back in 2023 and again in 2024 with even more riders. We can’t wait to see the 2025 events calendar!
WHAT HAS SCoMBA BEEN UP TO?
Over the last several years, SCoMBA’s Board began to realize that its path to continued success lay in hiring an Executive Director. They successfully completed this in the fall, with our new Executive Director starting in October. In July 2024, we added 4 new Board members, some of whom have significant non-profit experience with Friends of Dillon Ranger District. We also elected a new President, Treasurer, and Secretary from among our Board Members. The newly expanded board and officers have put in hundreds of volunteer hours since then and has improved our social media presence, attended the Breck Bike Week vendor expo, held one fundraiser, and restarted several trail planning projects.
TRAILS
We recently received approval from the US Forest Service to build 2.5 miles of trail reroutes on the Soda Creek Trail, which will make it significantly more sustainable. SCoMBA is also looking forward to opportunities to add and rework trails for a more diverse trail network, including black diamond trails. We have identified spaces with great potential for both larger features and progression, and continue to work on next steps to move forward with these projects.
SCoMBA needs your support to continue the work needed to obtain funding, meet with our land area partners, and to build and maintain world class trails in our county. The amount of work we can accomplish depends on our donations, memberships and our success obtaining grants. To complete our projects on new trails, Soda Creek and more, we are looking to secure $200,000 in grant funding.
This year, we will also be adding to and replacing a lot of our gear- including hard hats and tools. Your support helps us maintain trails from the grant application all the way to the dirt. Thank you for supporting the trails that matter to YOU!
