SECOR Cares provides for the food insecure residents of Douglas, Arapahoe, and Elbert County, along with pockets in Jeff Co, Adams and Denver counties (55 zip codes). We work to address food insecurity holistically through our three major programs: Free Food Market, Mobile Market, and Food for Thought.

Testimonials

As unemployed, underemployed and low-income residents of Arapahoe, Douglas, and Elbert counties struggle to find a job that will support their families, SECOR provides a safety net with critical emergency assistance to prevent hunger and homelessness.

"The experience was great. It worked out perfectly. The food selection was amazing and the number of items allowed was very reasonable." - SECOR Cares guest

"I thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of shopping alone. I was able to think about what I really wanted and/or needed. I also liked the fact that there were people around to monitor or answer questions." - SECORCares guest

"Thanks for asking how my shopping trip was. The gal that shopped with me was very nice and helpful. I was pleased to get coffee, yogurt, frozen salmon and canned tuna. I need to have salmon often, since I have RA. I was pleased to find a GF loaf of break...since they are over $7 at Natural Grocers." - SECORCares guest

"We really appreciate all of you at SECOR & your helpfulness! Thank you all so much for your pleasant smiles & your helpfulness. I appreciate you ALL & feel you friends are wonderful!" - SECOR Cares guest

Mission

Caring for people faced with suburban poverty, restoring hope and dignity, and guiding them toward a self-sufficient life

Background Statement

In the 1990s, SECOR (South East Community Outreach) began as a Christmas Outreach program from the Southeast Christian Church in Parker, CO, offering food and gifts to those who might not otherwise have a Christmas. From there, it grew into a year round outreach program, feeding families in need.

In 2006, SECOR Cares became our own entity, an official, 501C3 non-profit, and began to expand the offerings and our reach. The free food market took shape as a real market, donations started to grow a bit more, but still, suburban poverty's foothold in our community was widening.

Our Food for Thought program became an official outreach in 2015. Through this program in partnership with local schools, we are able to provide healthy meals to children and their families who were going without food on the weekends.

The year 2018 saw yet another expansion for SECOR Cares - the Mobile Market, which routinely stops at low income housing, senior living facilities, college campuses, and multiple food deserts in our service area.

Today, SECOR Cares continues to grow and expand not only the number of guests whom we serve, but also the myriad offerings to our guests. From Food for Thought for school aged children to resources for our senior guests, SECORCares continues to create new opportunities through the support of our sponsors, partners, volunteers and donors.

The Free Food Market currently averages 425 households per week. Our Mobile Market is serving nearly 200 shoppers per location. Food for Thought is serving over 2000 students per week. In only a week's time, SECOR can impact the lives of 3000 households.

We hope someday, there will no longer be a need for our services, but until then, we are here for those who do!
