Background Statement
On May 20, 2020, Sister-to-Sister: International Network of Professional African American
Women, Inc. became a tax-exempt public charity. However, our roots in Colorado are deep. We
began as Sister-to-Sister, an informal group of two-dozen Black women, on January 17, 1994.
With “no demands”, the group offered a nurturing haven of support, encouragement, education,
mentoring, and shelter from systemic racism and discrimination in intimate gathering spaces. By
just word-of-mouth and a created a sense of unconditional acceptance, belonging, and value,
Sister-to-Sister attracted 200 members.
The COVID-19 virus changed life for everyone. Staying at home led to Sister-to-Sister’s
incorporation with the goal of positively impacting more lives with innovative programming and
communications networks. We are approaching six hundred members. And any person with
internet may access most of our offerings, online. Advancing equity in critical areas like health,
wellness, education, and scholarship is our organization’s mission. Anyone interested in
supporting this mission may join. We offer programs, services, and benefits. Ninety-eight percent
are free. We have an all-volunteer governance and working board. Our leaders include board
directors from diverse backgrounds and professions, who share their time, talents, and
knowledge, and a volunteer CEO. Three part-time independent contractors and a small cadre of
volunteers support our operations. By advancing equity, Sister-to-Sister, Inc. continues to help
preserve and better human life, communities, and society.
