RESCUE REPORT since January 2020: LOST PETS FOUND & REUNITED WITH OWNERS: 810 DOGS & 202 CATS!!!
We save lives and keep families together!! Since January 2020, our team has helped SAFE over 1012 lost pets, resulting in 810 dogs and 202 cats FOUND SAFE and back HOME with their families because Summit Lost Pet Rescue! We are 100% donation and grant based, and donations go directly toward resources and supplies to help find lost pets. We would be grateful for your donation on this Colorado Gives Day!
In 2023, we had a total of 289 missions, resulting in a 99% success rate for lost dogs in 2023, 90% success rate for indoor only cats, and 67% success rate for indoor/outdoor cats. The goal is to work through the massive growth and keep up with and meet the increasing high demand to help find lost pets.
We are one of only a handful of lost pet rescue organizations in the entire country who focus primarily on finding and reuniting lost pets, which helps keep them out of the already full shelters. Prior to the formation of SLPR there was no central resource for owners to consult to find assistance in their searches. In the owners' darkest hours, our team steps up and delivers professional lost pet rescue services at no charge to the owner. We provide step by step instructions, support, skills, boots on the ground, knowledge of lost pet behaviors, rescue equipment and search protocol techniques. We have a very strong following on Facebook and in the County. The community rallies behind us and celebrates when the pet is found. We have been told that SLPR has brought much needed joy & positivity to Summit County with our dedication and success stories and we are proud to have won Best Nonprofit 4 years in a row and are honored to be nominated again this year. Our 200+ volunteers are throughout the county- Breckenridge, Summit Cove, Silverthorne, Dillon, Frisco, Keystone, Leadville, and Copper. We would be grateful for some financial support so we can keep up with the demand for our services.
Testimonial from a Lost Pet Owners-
Tiga's Parents: Your wonderful volunteers helped us find our dog, Tiga, in the Frisco area, and I have not had a chance to thank you earlier. We did not realize that she was missing for a couple of hours, so by the time we started looking for her, she managed to cause a brief highway shut down and mobilize a substantial number of volunteers (Animal Control included). By the time she was found, she was on the run for several hours and very scared. We were panicking as well and we were very grateful that the volunteers were helpful, supportive and just very kind to us. They were clearly knowledgeable on how to handle the situation and well coordinated in their assistance. Tiga slept for the next couple of days, her paw pads needed a few days to heal and it took her a few days before her tail was wagging again. Big thanks to all of you! We appreciate you!
Bindi's Family: I was on my way back up from Denver after some holiday traveling on NYE during a blizzard when my pup Bindi ran out as a neighbor went over to walk her. I was stuck in stand still traffic on i-70 when my sister remembered about Summit Lost Pet Rescue. Within 10 minutes, Melissa and her crew were on the ground searching and keeping me in the loop every step of the way. The crew did more than I could have ever done had I been there! They ended up food trapping her at the closest house to her last sighting and the entire search took about two hours. She was returned back home before I even got back to Summit! Summit Lost Pet Rescue has the resources, knowledge, and connections to find your fur baby! Bindi and I are so grateful to have this organization within our community!
Leni's Family: Brandon, Melissa & their amazing team of volunteers helped find our dog this past Saturday. The conditions of this rescue couldn’t have been more dangerous as she was lost in a thunderstorm along I-70. Summit Pet Rescue acted quickly and coordinated 6 team members to help us in our search. Leni was missing overnight Friday and reunited with us at about 4pm Saturday. We are forever grateful for their efforts. Thank you to all who helped us!!!
Vitani's Family: Every day since getting Vitani back has been the most euphoric experience. She lights up my life in unexplainable ways. Throughout the three days that she was taken l was surprised at how lost and hallow l felt. I would have lost my mind if it weren't, in great part, for you Melissa and the Summit Lost Pet Rescue team! You kept my mind focused on all the positive and productive things l could be doing to get her back. The experience, resources, and knowledge you have on reconnecting pets and owners is impressive but it was comforting most of all to feel the empathy you had in my fear, sadness, and ultimately in my extreme joy in getting her back. You're absolutely astounding and we cannot thank you enough for everything you did for us two buds.
OUR MISSION:
Summit Lost Pet Rescue is an animal protection and welfare organization devoted to educating the public about lost pet prevention, finding lost pets in Summit County, Colorado and reuniting them with their owners.
Our Co-Founders started Summit Lost Pet Rescue in March 2020, because searching for lost pets has been a passion of ours for many years. We decided we could better help our Summit community find more lost pets if we started this 501c3, 100% donation based nonprofit! At the beginning, there were only about 2 lost pet rescues a month, now there are between 20-50 per month. The demand for our services to save lost pets grows daily! We had 102 rescue missions in all of 2020, 189 missions in 2021, 229 in 2022, 289 in 2023, and already over 288 missions in 2024 with 1 month left to go.
