Summit Therapy Animals is an organization whose volunteers enrich the lives of others through the powerful human-animal bond.
Our therapy animal teams are registered, certified and insured human & pet partners who volunteer in hospitals, schools, public libraries, long-term care facilities, adult day care centers, hospice centers, and other care-giving facilities in and around Summit County, CO. Our network of caring volunteers are willing to share their special pets to bring smiles, joy and comfort to people, young and old alike.
We are 100% donation, grant and fundraiser based. Funds are used to recruit, prepare and register new therapy animal teams and to provide ongoing support, education and materials to existing therapy animal teams.
Our most popular program is Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) which has been in every school in Summit County. These special therapy dogs provide a non-judgmental but active listener for children to bond with and improve their reading and communication skills. Summit Therapy Animals' R.E.A.D. teams received the 2022 Summit County Library Volunteer Appreciation Award.
In addition to R.E.A.D., our teams are active every year doing regular visits to the local hospital, regular visits to local libraries and multitude of semi-regular or on-demand therapy visits to facilities throughout the county.
