100% complete

$5,000 Goal

Providing senior living and services to the Pikes Peak region since 1911, Sunny Vista is a committed Colorado Springs proud non-profit providing a full continuum of care and services ranging from affordable independent living to assisted and memory support and skilled nursing, both short-term and long-term care. Sunny Vista is committed to providing for all our region's older adults, including those who require support to afford the care and services they need. Our affordable independent living apartment homes are HUD-subsidized, Section 8-202 housing. We accept Medicaid as a form of reimbursement for skilled nursing services for those who qualify.

Sunny Vista earned the World's Best Culture Award for 2024, meaning we have an exceptional culture and our values align with those of the people we employ and serve. We know to provide the best care we must invest in our team members, ensuring they are highly trained professionals. Our team members understand that excellence lives at the intersection of skill and caring, and work daily to carry out our mission by providing care, support, and spaces for seniors to live life on their own terms.

Our focus for 2025 is to build a team member scholarship program to continually reinvest in those who care for our most precious community members: older adults. The scholarship program is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your care for older adults and the people providing care with a generous gift that will provide transformative training.

Mission

To provide the care, support, and spaces for seniors to live life on their own terms.

Background Statement

Sunny Vista began as a tuberculosis sanatorium in 1911 and was originally known as Sunnyrest Sanatorium. Marjorie Palmer Watt, the daughter of Colorado Springs founder General William Palmer, created an endowment that is still in place today. The sanatorium served men, women, and children, and was run by five Sisters of the Kaiserwerth Deaconesses. The fee was $8 per week for patients able to contribute, but most of the money was raised in the community. After World War II, when tuberculosis was no longer a great threat, Sunnyrest became a non-profit, long-term care facility for community residents who couldn’t afford health care. In 2004 an updated long-term care community called The Living Center was built and the organizational name was changed to Sunny Vista. In 2018 The Retreat at Sunny Vista opened, offering assisted living and memory support care. In all there are three buildings on campus, the third being The Villas offering HUD-Section 8 affordable independent senior living.
