Support sustainability locally and globally by supporting Fair Trade in the Front Range
As a Board member, store volunteer and speaker for Ten Thousand Villages, I understand that our mission of Fair Trade changes many lives in the developing world. We serve customers who share our values and cherish the truly unique gifts crafted with care by Villages artisans. It is the individual artisan stories which distinguish our products.
- Board member and volunteer, Kay Taylor
The mission of Ten Thousand Villages is to create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to North American markets through long- term fair trading relationships.
Ten Thousand Villages began in 1946 when a Mennonite woman, Edna Ruth Byler, brought back beautifully embroidered linens from Puerto Rico to sell to her friends. In 1981, the Denver store opened as a thrift and gift store. In 1998 they officially became Ten Thousand Villages Denver, dropping the thrift section of the store. Through the many hours of volunteers, staff, and board members, the store has served the Denver area for over 30 years, improving the quality of life for thousands of artisans around the world.
