Year after year, our Festival brings together both local & visiting communities to share in the curiosities & joy of the abundant wildflowers in our valley. By offering over 150 events (from hikes & photography to culinary & watercolor art) as opportunities to engage with and learn about this unique natural beauty, we hope to instill in guests a deep connection to nature and inspire an understanding for the necessity of preservation efforts.
Contributions from supporters like you help us continue to grow our educational outreach during and outside of the Festival dates, host experts in various scientific disciplines as event leaders, and create job & internship opportunities for our local community members.

Background Statement
Founded in 1986, the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival was established to celebrate the beauty of the montane and alpine wildflower environments in and around the Gunnison Valley and to promote Crested Butte as a summer visitor destination. In 1990 the state of Colorado recognized the uniqueness of this valley and its abundant annual wildflower displays by declaring Crested Butte the "Wildflower Capital of Colorado." The Festival has since grown from a small weekend event run by a few volunteers to a 10-day Festival offering over 150 events each summer. As a 501(c)3 organization, we employ over 45 event leaders who come to the Festival to share their wildflower expertise, be it painting, pollination, photography, culinary arts, or leading hikes into the wild beyond of Crested Butte. We advocate for the preservation and appreciation of wildflowers through these events and hope to instill both awareness and admiration of our interdependence with our natural wildflower habitats.
