Testimonials from 2023 include:
"Our family is a Venue family. The Venue is a place where all of us feel at home. The directors are not only phenomenally talented but also kind and supportive to all the kids who participate. It’s amazing to see kids come out of their shells with confidence and pride. The Venue shows are always full of talent, stunning sets and costumes, and the theatre provides a welcoming community for all. Even my son, who isn’t interested in acting/singing like his three sisters, has found so much joy helping with constructing and painting sets! We would participate in every single Venue production if possible!" -Marni Reinstein, Parent
“The Venue Theatre is our second home for the past 10 years. It has given my children a creative outlet and also has given them a safe space to be themselves. On top of all these great things, they have learned life skills such as public speaking , memorization, work ethic, problem solving and working cooperatively with a group. The Venue Theatre will always hold a special place in our hearts and we will always be committed to volunteering to see that this place stays open for years to come.” -Melissa Bartt, Parent
"My daughter loves the Venue Theatre! Thanks to Amy Dolan Fletcher for her hard work and dedication to keep this open for the kids. The Venue has been such a great place to enhance my daughter's confidence and give her the social/emotional support she needs during these isolating times. She learns more than just theatre!" - Stephanie, Parent
"As a member of the creative team, I am so honored to be a part of such an incredible community of students and teachers. Under the fearless and creative leadership of Amy and the Board, The Venue is providing a nurturing and empowering place for kids to express themselves and continue to build upon their dreams. The Venue has overcome incredible odds to keep the doors open and will continue to safely push forward for a bright and innovative future. I am so excited to see what these students accomplish in years to come!"- Marisa VerSteegh, Director/Educator
The Venue Theatre exists to provide an accepting and enriching environment for greater Denver and Foothills youth to discover, explore, and celebrate their unique and extraordinary abilities.
The Venue Theatre Company began in August 2013 when Founder Nelson Conway brought together a talented group of adult instructors dedicated to teaching important life skills to children and youth in the foothills communities through theater arts training.
In just three months, over five thousand hours of labor and $50,000 in construction materials were donated by two dozen volunteers to transform an open space into a theater while the first cast rehearsed in parks and churches. The Venue's High School program performed its first production in November 2013, followed in the spring by Middle and Elementary Program productions and another High School production.
In 2020, under the direction of new Artistic Director, Amy Fletcher, and with live productions on hiatus due to COVID-19, The Venue has pivoted to an education-based model by offering intimate dance, voice, music, scene study, and technical theatre classes. These safety aware, in-person classes encourage students to learn communication skills through physical and emotional expression as well as coping mechanisms during this unprecedented time. Students have looked to The Venue as a refuge during a time when in-person congregation opportunities are minimal, all while making attention to safety a top priority.
2023 has offered more opportunities than could have been imagined. Our High school company put on the Lightning Thief Musical at the beginning of this year. Our middle schoolers put on You're A Good Man Charlie Brown! We then put on Aladdin Kids with the elementary students in the Spring. We held a summer camp that performed Matilda Jr. with ages K-8. Our Middle School students recently closed School House Rock, and our High School Students are currently performing Chicago the Musical. Now, our elementary, middle and high school companies are all back this season to continue to bring theatre to our community.
