Escalating Cost of Living

In Colorado, we have seen a dramatic rise in the cost of living in recent years, with skyrocketing expenses for housing, utilities, and other essentials impacting residents across the board.

Today, in Jefferson County, a single adult without children needs an estimated $54,903 per year before taxes just to cover basic expenses, and this burden only grows for families. Persistent inflation and escalating housing prices leave little margin for most, intensifying the need for reliable access to food and essential resources.

At last year's Thanksgiving event, a community member receives a box of food along with a gift card to purchase a turkey.

What We’re Seeing at The Action Center

Our team has been committed to meet the surging demand for food and essential resources. We are, unfortunately, not immune to the very issues we try to address. This year, increased food costs have made it difficult to keep our Food Market shelves stocked.

In response, we’ve had to make tough, strategic decisions to ensure we can continue meeting community needs.

One of these decisions was to forgo our traditional Thanksgiving Food Distribution, an annual event cherished by our donors, volunteers, and community members. This was not an easy decision to make.

We realized that it became necessary as we are facing significant challenges with the food we purchase being much more expensive, and our food sources are providing less than we need to meet the demand. By redirecting our efforts, we can ensure that all families in need receive essential food support over the coming months rather than concentrating resources on our beloved holiday event.

What Your Gift Can Do

This is where your support can make a transformative difference. With the rising costs and reduced food donations, your donation not only fills our shelves but also strengthens our capacity to adapt to increasing demands and sustain essential programs, offering a lifeline to those facing hardship.

As we approach the end of the year, we humbly ask for your support to help us bridge the gap between rising demand and available resources. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to a more secure and thriving community.

Your gift today, will help us change lives tomorrow.

Financial gifts to The Action Center enable us to meet our mission. All gifts, whether cash or through donated items dropped off at our dock, are tax deductible to the extent provided by the law.
