Our student outcomes are built through collaboration across a dedicated community of students, instructors, mentors, and job coaches. Whether you choose the Back-End Engineering program or the Front-End Engineering program, Turing will support you every step of the way as you begin a career in tech.
"I came from an engineering background and decided to attend because I had heard the success stories. I learned a TON and have already almost doubled my salary at my first developer position. It's definitely a marathon, so be prepared for some exhausting nights! Ultimately it's worth it though because I feel that the tools they provided have completely prepared me for my future in web development."
ALIA PETERSON, Turing Alum and Software Developer
"This is 100% my dream job and industry. It combines my passion for tech with my passion for music and artists. There are a handful of Turing alumni that work at my company so they know the skills I'm coming in with and I'm able to learn new languages and technologies. It's huge, and I couldn't be happier."
ISABELLE VILLASENOR, Turing Alum and Software Developer
"One of the things I love about Turing is that you give your students 30% - 40% of what they need to be successful within the program and they have to Learn/Research the rest of it. This creates engineers who are resourceful, creative, autonomous and willing to do the work to figure out how to solve problems they don't know how to solve."
ERIC SPERY, Housecall Pro (hiring company)
"Turing graduates are some of our most valued engineers. We plan on hiring yearly for junior developers and Turing is one of the bootcamps we trust."
BRITTANY MARTIN, TextUs (hiring company)
Turing's mission is to unlock human potential by training a diverse and inclusive student body to succeed in high fulfillment technical careers.
Jeff Casimir, who is Turing's Executive Director, is really a pioneer of coding schools. He started out in 2012 as a contractor for Living Social and created a group called Hungry Academy. Back in 2012 there wasn't really a thing called Coding Bootcamps. Living Social ended up hiring all 24 of the students in Jeff's class. In 2013, he co-founded gSchool (Galvanize) and taught/led two cohorts. It was very successful, but Galvanize decided to go on a different route on the business side - getting involved with venture capitalists and wanted to expand quickly. Jeff didn't agree with this plan and left to open Turing School in 2014.
So what makes us different from other coding schools...
First, Jeff went a whole different route and decided to make Turing a non-profit that we wouldn't have to answer to investors. Instead, all the decisions made at Turing are based on the goal to ensure the academic success of all of our students.
Second, our instructional and operations staff are unlike any other coding schools out there. We have a strong balance of industry experience and real teaching experience in K-12 schools. So not only do we think about content and what we're actually teaching you to become professional web developers, but we're also thinking about pedagogy. We think about best practices and how to meet the needs of all our students who come from all different backgrounds and levels of experiences. I would recommend that you ask other coding schools about their staff (how long they've been there, what's their background, do they have industry experience, etc.) You can find all our staff info here: https://www.turing.io/our-team
Third,we are a seven month program. We don't call ourselves a bootcamp. Instead, we're an accelerated learning program that will prepare you to be just as competitive as any other software developer who received a 4-year computer science degree or even better. So while you're in our program you get a good mix of front-end and back-end development skills to give you that edge when you apply for jobs. Additionally, within the seven months, you take 4 classes (we call them modules). Each class is 6 weeks long and is followed by an intermission week. Because we take in a new set of people every seven weeks, students are able to take breaks or leaves of absences during the program until the next seven weeks starts up again. You wouldn't be with the same class, but you'd start where you left off. For example, you could take Module 1, then take a break due to a family emergency or some other reason, and then come back seven weeks later for Module 2. Although it's ideal to take the program straight through, we like to give students the opportunity to have a flexible schedule as needed.
