ALL DOGS HAVE A STORY! Many of our dogs are homeless, abandoned, abused, neglected, lost, or relinquished by their owners. While each dog's story may be different, they all want an opportunity to love and be loved in a "furever" home. Your donation would help serve those without a voice.

We are a non-profit, socially conscious shelter located in Monte Vista, Colorado. We believe in care and compassion, and in our awesome rescue dogs. We hope you love our dogs as much as we do!
The Upper Rio Grande Animal Society Conour Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing a safe environment for the shelter and care of animals in need, and for the prevention of cruelty and abuse of all animals. It is our pledge to nourish the relationship between companion animals and humans through education, media exposure, and readily available information and assistance.
Upper Rio Grande Animal Society (URGAS) was incorporated December 17, 2009 and received IRS nonprofit 501(c)3 status on March 10, 2010. On January 1, 2010, URGAS took over the running of the Conour Animal Shelter. In 2011, URGAS opened a pet crematory, the only one in the San Luis Valley. Our board of directors is all volunteer, with no one receiving any pay for their time and efforts. We currently have 2-3 paid employees. We love our dogs very much, and deeply value and appreciate any support you can give toward the cause.
