Vail Friends of Dance (VFOD) is a nonprofit organization based in the Vail Valley that is made up entirely of volunteers who are dedicated to the development of our local dancers. VFOD was founded in 1984, by Denise Briner, Henry Hill, Joanne Morgan and Sybill Navas.
VFOD is dedicated to developing, supporting, and inspiring young dancers and teachers from all backgrounds by providing accessible opportunities, equitable resources, and an inclusive environment that fosters artistic excellence.
VFOD is managed by a Board of Directors, comprised of volunteer members who meet monthly to discuss fundraising events, annual budgets, and the distribution of scholarship and financial aid.
Each year, the Vail Friends of Dance presents The Nutcracker Ballet at the Vail Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, Colorado. It is the only opportunity in the rural community of Eagle County for locals to see an affordable, high-quality full-length ballet production. It is performed by local youth ballet dancers from the ages of 8-18 alongside professional dancers and attracts more than 2,000 patrons over four performances. Funds raised through ticket sales, program ads, silent auction, and the bake sale contribute to the Vail Friends of Dance mission.
