Background Statement
Wellspring Community was founded in 2008 by a mother who sought an abundant life for her daughter with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). She and her daughter started baking in her kitchen with a few friends.
Today, Wellspring Community continues to bake and also provides vibrant day programming, transportation services, and adaptive work opportunities to 140 adults with I/DD from 6 counties: Douglas, Elbert, El Paso, Arapaho, Jefferson, and Garfield (online program only).
The next big venture for Wellspring is to expand our services to include residential care and housing called Unity on Park. This will be an intentional community, where individuals with disabilities will live alongside individuals who are nondisabled. The goal is to empower adults with I/DD to live independently, yet with the support of staff who are available 24/7.
To take this next step and expand our services to include residential care, we need your help. A big part of the magic of Wellspring is the enthusiastic support of our donors, which affords us extra horsepower that other providers cannot touch. We project that residential services will cost approximately $213,000 to provide in 2024 alone. A gift of $161.36 will provide two days of residential services for one resident.
We believe that our communities are enriched when people of all abilities can live, work, and thrive together. There is a reason “community” is in our name; it’s what we are building. A true community that includes everyone.
