Western Leaders Network

A nonprofit organization

We are a network for local and tribal officials to connect; exchange ideas; stay informed of western economic and conservation issues; and collaboratively make an impact at the local, state and national level on issues that affect our air, water, public health and public lands.

Testimonials

"I am grateful to Western Leadership Network for their support in creating resolutions and providing such great research information that allows us to address national issues at our respective local levels." -- Anna Hansen, Santa Fe County Commissioner, NM

"Western Leaders Network's inaugural summit was a big success for new and veteran elected and tribal officials alike. It was great to network with colleagues from across the Rocky Mountains, exchange ideas and lessons learned, and be inspired by the opportunity for taking collective action on the important conservation issues facing the West." -- Elise Jones, Boulder County Commissioner, CO

"The Western Leaders Network inaugural summit was a chance to interact with others from varying regions of the West and learn how they have handled common issues. Ideas on lobbying and power mapping were great. Ultimately, I was able to forge new allies and connections with others moving forward." -- Victor Snover, Mayor of Aztec, NM

Mission

Western Leaders Network is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that unites, supports and cultivates pro-conservation local, tribal and state elected officials to protect western lands and build healthy, sustainable and resilient communities.

Background Statement

Climate change and unfettered development of nonrenewable resources has a disproportionate effect on western lands, air and water. In 2017, in response to unprecedented rollbacks on conservation and clean energy under the new presidential administration, Gwen Lachelt founded Western Leaders Network to organize pro-conservation local and tribal elected officials across the Interior West to collaboratively take action; stand up for western values; build stronger, sustainable local economies and inspire a new generation of leaders for the West. WLN organizes leaders in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.
