Mission

Based in the North Fork Valley, the Western Slope Conservation Center builds an informed and engaged community to protect and enhance the lands, air, water and wildlife of the Western Slope.

Background Statement

The Western Slope Conservation Center (WSCC) formed in 1977 when a small group of local citizens joined together to successfully stop coal mines from dumping waste near the North Fork of the Gunnison River. Since our inception we have worked tirelessly and fearlessly in public lands advocacy, watershed stewardship, and community education and engagement. WSCC created and maintains what is now a jewel of a park for all to enjoy - the Paonia River Park - a space for connection to our river, outdoor education and enjoyment of nature and trails. Through our member and community support, we have a rich list of accomplishments we can all be proud of.
