We Build More Than Bikes

Do you remember receiving your very first bike? For many of us, this was a moment of pure freedom and joy, a symbol of independence and endless possibilities. But for many children in Colorado, this experience is out of reach. For families that struggle to make ends meet, purchasing a bicycle and helmet is simply just not possible.

At Wish for Wheels, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to feel the wind in their face as they pedal across the pavement, because a bike is so much more than a toy. It’s a ticket to confidence, health, mobility, responsibility, and a brighter future.

Here’s what some parents and teachers of children we’ve served have said:

  • “His bike is his pride and joy. He’s way more careful with it and makes sure to always lock it up. It’s taught him responsibility and he takes care of personal items more since he's received the bike." - Parent
  • “After getting a bike and knowing it can be a reward, he’s paid more attention in school. Exercising before class helps him focus, and he gets to spend more time outside with his brother." - Parent
  • "We couldn’t afford a bike, so this was a huge relief. Now he gets to his friend’s house without us worrying. He’s so happy to ride his bike." - Parent
  • “As a mom, I am very grateful to Wish for Wheels for the thoughtfulness and opportunity given to kids; it opens outdoor exploration opportunities and elevates their lives to a whole new level.” - Parent
  • “After students receive their bikes, the ones who know how to ride already feel empowered to show off their skills and use their new mode of transportation before and after school. We have many students who are seen riding their WFW bikes back to the playground after school or through the neighborhood with friends. Students who did not already know how to ride bikes really experience a great sense of perseverance and pride in the instruction and practice that happen during the Build and Give event. Students often use this day as their first example in future years of, ‘When did you persevere?’” - Teacher

Every dollar you donate goes directly to our Colorado kids, giving them the chance to experience the joy and opportunity that you might remember from your own childhood. By giving the gift of a bike and helmet, you’re giving children the chance to pedal off into a better future.

Please join us in our mission by giving the gift of a bike and helmet today.

Giving Activity

Mission

Wish for Wheels empowers the well-being of children, families, and communities with the gift of a new bike and helmet for 2nd-grade students in Title I schools.

Background Statement

Wish for Wheels has been transforming communities by providing bikes to under-served children for over twenty years. In 2004, our founder, Brad Appel, had a Wish to equip every child with a bike… 90,000+ bikes later his Wish is becoming a reality.

While we frequently partner with teams from organizations across the country to Build & Give bikes to children in their local communities, we’re Denver-born and increasing our impact in our home state is always one of our highest priorities. With your gift, we can help more children across the state live stronger, healthier lives.
