Background Statement
The Wright Stuff Community Foundation (WSCF) was founded in Norwood, CO in 1996 to fill the need for a local child care program. WSCF has held its 501(C)3 non-profit status since 1998 and acts as an umbrella organization for several programs, including the Prime Time Early Learning Center (PTELC). PTELC was formed fill a critical need for before-and-after school care for children of low-income working parents. Being situated in a small, rural community, working parents must often commute long distances for service positions in the ski resort communities surrounding Telluride, CO. Fueled by community demand, a devoted volunteer board, and committed staff members, PTELC quickly developed into a year-round program.
WSCF is now in its twenty-first year and continues to sponsor PTELC, its largest and most resource-intensive program. In 2012, Prime Time was designated as one of four state-recognized Pyramid Plus Model demonstration sites, and the only rural site in that group. PTELC offers high quality, licensed, year-round education programs for children ages 6 weeks through 12 years in western San Miguel and Montrose counties. The Center leverages the diversity of the families it serves to promote early development and strong social-emotional foundations. Prime Time is the only licensed early childhood center in Norwood, CO and the greater Wright's Mesa area. As the sole provider of a critical service in a remote, rural location, PTELC's programming is essential to maintaining the vitality of the community.
