Testimonials

"I wanted to go into education before I dropped out of college due to my own experience with substance use disorder. Through a school speaking program launched by my YPR chapter, I can get that message of recovery into someone's mind at an early age and give them hope. If they're ever in the situation that I found myself in, they will know that recovery is possible."

"I searched my whole life to find the purpose and camaraderie I have now through the many friendships I've made in recovery. YPR encourages this type of fellowship and because we are not anonymous, we are able to promote these opportunities to everyone."

"YPR empowers us to identify as a person in long-term recovery. It's nice to have a place where any way you talk is accepted. Because we don't focus on the specific substances that brought us to recovery, anyone can feel included as we try to keep our eyes on the solution."

Mission

Young People in Recovery (YPR) is national grassroots organization that provides peer-led services to improve access to resources such as housing, education and employment that support long-term recovery, particularly for youth and young adults. YPR envisions a world where everyone can access the necessary tools to recover from substance use disorder (SUD). YPR's mission is to provide the life skills and peer supports that young people need to thrive and be successful in long-term recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol. By creating a national network of individuals in recovery, we empower people to get involved in their communities by providing them with the tools and support to take charge of their futures.

Background Statement

YPR envisions a world where everyone can access the necessary tools to recover from substance use disorder. YPR's mission is to provide the life skills and peer supports that young people need to thrive and be successful in long-term recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol.

YPR was formed in 2010 by young people in recovery (defined as under age 30) who wanted to help others. Today, we are the largest national grassroots organization focusing on peer recovery supports for youth and young adults.

YPR embraces all pathways to recovery including 12-step, faith-based, medication-assisted and individuals who do not identify with any particular treatment or recovery philosophy.

Our programs consist of chapters for youth and young adults in recovery from substance use disorder; life-skills curriculums for individuals in recovery from SUD; and advocacy to reduce stigma and create more resources for recovery.

YPR has 65 chapters nationwide including 10 in Colorado: Adams County, Arapahoe County, Arvada, CaƱon City, Colorado Springs, Cortez, Denver, Denver-Spanish, Durango, and Pueblo.
